Several new varieties of SWIFTSURE® swing clamps from Carr Lane Roemheld offer position monitoring for more swing clamp control. One hydraulic version utilizes a proximity switch installed in the housing of the swing clamp. The same clamp in a pneumatic version uses an installed magnetic piston, which works with sensors to enable position monitoring. Both are available in various sizes.
Another hydraulic variety of swing clamp has a protruding actuating rod which allows position control outside the work area by electrical or pneumatic controls. Fixtures can be clamped with unrestricted workpiece loading and unloading, and the clamp is ideal for use with handling systems, transfer lines, test systems for motors or gears, automatic manufacturing systems and assembly lines.
The clamp has a reinforced swing mechanism that endures collision of the clamping arm with the workpiece during clamping up to 1500 psi, maintaining the angular position of the clamping arm with no overload protection device. These new clamps, which have a maximum operating pressure of 7500 psi, are available in three styles as mounting options — threaded body, bottom flange and top flange.

support workpieces at high pressure. All items feature zero-leakage technology and are available in multiple sizes. The many high-quality items in the SWIFTSURE® line are specifically designed to work well together as systems. Some of the most popular items in the SWIFTSURE® catalog include hydraulic clamps, work supports, machine vises, and concentric clamping devices. And as a full-capability manufacturer, Carr Lane Roemheld can readily supply specialized parts with reasonable lead times. More information can be obtained at the company’s web site, www.clrh.com.
Power workholding for use in metalworking fixtures has several advantages over manual clamping. Increased speed and accuracy create a more efficient and profitable production environment, which is especially beneficial for long runs. Other advantages include improved quality, reduced labor costs, high repeatability and less waste. |
