FEATURES: This handy, high-quality tool is designed especially for flaring heavy-wall hydraulic tubing in 5/16" O.D. size. The Flaring Tool consists of two clamping jaws with a wire handle and a striking tool. The only other tools required are a hammer and a vice.
OPERATION: Insert tube end between the clamping jaws, extending 1/8" above the top. Place the lower portion of the clamping jaws in a vice and tighten until the jaws contact solidly. Insert point of striking tool into the tube end and strike 3-4 times with a hammer. Remove tubing from clamping jaws, then install nuts and sleeves before flaring the second end. After flaring both ends, inspect to verify that each flare’s outside diameter extends beyond the I.D.of the sleeve, but not beyond the O.D. of the sleeve.
TUBING INSTALLATION: Tubing pieces should be prepared for installation by following these steps: 1) Cut tubing to length with a Tubing Cutter, CLR-100-TL, or hacksaw. 2) File or sand tube end square. 3) De-burr both O.D. and I.D., preferably with a De-burring Tool, CLR-200-TL. 4) Clean with solvent to remove chips, dirt, and rust-preventative coating. 5) Blow clean with a shop air line. 6) If using 37°-flare fittings, flare tubing with a Flaring Tool, CLR-300-TL. Note: a Tube End fitting, consisting of a nut and sleeve, must be placed on each tube end before flaring is completed. 7) Bend as required, preferably with a Tubing Bender, CLR-400-TL.
