TOOLING-BLOCK PALLET DECOUPLERS

Four Sided

Four-sided tooling block with a pallet decoupler mounted on top. Clamping valves control each face independently.

7500 psi max
Single Acting

FEATURES: Convenient fluid supply for multi-face pallets, requiring only one pressure connection. Controls each tooling-block face independently with a 3-way clamping valve. Decouples easily for machining, with automatic shutoff. Complete assembly includes all valves, male Quick Disconnect, and Accumulator.

MODELS AVAILABLE: Pallet decouplers are offered with a choice of two Accumulator sizes — see Dimensions page for part numbers:
 Compact Accumulator
 Large Accumulator
Four-sided decouplers can also be used for two-sided tooling blocks (with two valves unused). Specials are available for more than four faces.

POWER UNIT: Any standard single-acting power unit can be used with this Pallet Decoupler.

OPTIONAL SAFETY SUPPORT: We offer an optional safety support that should be mounted a convenient distance away from the machining fixture. This support has a dummy connection for the female Quick Disconnect, for use after the hydraulic hose is disconnected from the Pallet Decoupler. An integral limit switch ensures that the fixture can be moved only if the hose has been correctly removed from the decoupler and attached to the safety support.

OPERATION: Two revolutions of the pallet are required for loading: the first to unload finished parts (one face at a time), the second to reload new parts (one face at a time).
1. Remove protective cap from male Quick Disconnect on decoupler. Clean coupling components if necessary.
2. Connect hydraulic hose, with female Quick Disconnect, to the Pallet Decoupler. The power unit should be in "unclamped" mode (depressurized) before connection.
3. Turn clamping valve on first face to "unclamped" position, then remove part. Index and repeat for all faces.

4. Switch power unit to "clamped" mode.
5. Load new part on first face, then turn clamping valve on first face to "clamped" position. Index and repeat for all faces.
6. Switch power unit to "unclamped" mode.
7. Disconnect hose and replace protective cap on male Quick Disconnect. Hose can be connected to the optional safety support while not in use.

MOUNTING: Mount on top of tooling block, at its rotational center. Fasten with four socket-head cap screws. Provide clearance hole in center of block for Accumulator. Place power unit's push-button switch near the loading area. 1/4" BSPP ports. Do not use NPT fittings.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
1. Use Pallet Decouplers only with our power-workholding components, because all components must have zero leakage.
2. The decoupler's Accumulator compensates for pressure variations due to temperature changes. In a closed hydraulic system, pressure will increase if fixture temperature increases. This increase can be quite substantial (about 80 psi per 1°F). Be careful not to exceed 7500 psi at any time during the machining cycle. We recommend installing a pressure gauge on each fixture face.
3. If the possibility of exceeding 7500 psi exists, install a Pressure-Relief Valve (CLR-2952-521-V) on the pallet.
4. Feed hydraulic hose from directly above the pallet, so that the hose cannot twist more than a few degrees. Use only our Heavy-Duty Hose (not Fixture Hose). If necessary, install a straight single-passage Rotary Coupling above the hose, carefully mounted to avoid strain.
5. Fluid must be clean (10 micron or better nominal filtration).
