HOLLOW CYLINDERS

3/8" and 1/2" Stud Sizes
Integral Flange

1/4" and 5/8" Stud Sizes
Flange Optional -- Order Separately

For applications using single-acting
clamps in flood coolant, see
Venting of Internal Spring Area.

Cylindrical part, located and clamped with a center rod and C washer.

7500 psi max
Single Acting

FEATURES: Hollow Cylinders have a hole through the center of their plunger to accept a stud or drawbar. Quickly convert clamp straps from manual to power operation. Useful for transmitting force to a remote location using a drawbar. Hollow Cylinders can be used for pulling or for pushing.

CENTER HOLE: Choose either a threaded or unthreaded center hole. The threaded version is ideal for pulling or pushing a drawbar, or replacing a nut on a clamp strap. The unthreaded version is useful if the clamp is removed for workpiece loading.

SIZES: Available in 4 sizes, each with a choice of threaded or unthreaded through-hole — see Dimensions page for part numbers. Clamping force at 7500 psi:
 2300 Lbs  1/4" stud
 7000 Lbs  3/8" stud
 11000 Lbs  1/2" stud
 17000 Lbs  5/8" stud

CLAMPING ACTION: Applying fluid pressure advances the plunger, pulling up a stud or drawbar inserted through the center hole. Spring return.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS: Hollow Cylinders exert considerable force, so always use a grade 8 stud or equivalent drawbar.

MOUNTING ON A CLAMP STRAP: Use either a threaded-hole or unthreaded-hole clamp. Mount on the clamp strap's center stud (longer stud usually required). Use a Spherical Washer underneath the clamp to compensate for clamp-strap angle. When using a threaded-hole clamp, install with a flexible hose because the clamp body will move slightly during clamping.

MOUNTING ON A FIXTURE PLATE: Insert four socket-head cap screws through the flange base from above and screw into fixture (flange base must be ordered separately for 1/4" and 5/8" sizes – fasten to clamp with four additional socket-head cap screws). Alternatively, insert cap screws up through the fixture plate and screw into the clamp from below.

MOUNTING THROUGH A BORED HOLE: Insert four socket-head cap screws through the flange base from below and screw into fixture. Alternatively, fasten with optional lock nut (two required for 1/4" and 5/8" sizes).

FLUID CONNECTION: 1/4" BSPP port. Do not use NPT fittings.

CONSTRUCTION: Plunger > Steel, case hardened. Body > Steel, black oxide finish.
