QIS DOWNTHRUST VISE JAWS

Step Jaw Inserts

FEATURES: Step Jaw Inserts are used together with base jaws as part of our Quick Insert System (QIS). These versatile downthrust jaws allow clamping rectangular workpieces up high in the vise without using parallel blocks. This allows raising short workpieces for easier access, and also provides tool clearance between the workpiece and the vise bed. Each Step Jaw Insert has both a high and a low step. Steps are precision ground to maintain accurate vertical and horizontal location. Use Step Jaw inserts only in pairs.

QUICK INSERT SYSTEM: QIS is our patented system of downthrust vise jaws, consisting of several different quick-change jaw inserts that mount on a single base jaw. Jaw inserts are held in place by a guide pin and two permanent magnets. Jaw inserts can be changed in a few seconds. The base jaw and jaw inserts have a matching angle between them to provide downthrust action. This downthrust effect ensures that the workpiece is held firmly down against the vise to a precise zero point, providing extremely accurate height location.

SIZES: Available in three jaw widths, to fit the following vise sizes — see Dimensions page for part numbers:
 100mm Jaw
 125mm Jaw
 160mm Jaw

MOUNTING: Base jaws are firmly fastened to the vise using two socket-head cap screws. To install jaw inserts, slide insert along the vise bed until the guide pin engages the groove in the base jaw and the insert is held by the permanent magnets. To remove, pull the jaw insert upward until the guide pin reaches the top of the slot, then tilt the insert forward to overcome the retention force of the permanent magnets.

MATERIAL: Steel, hardened and ground.
