FEATURES: Self-Locking Work Supports are particularly suited for clamping on fixtures which are disconnected from their power source (machine-tool pallets, pallet storage systems, indexing machines, transfer lines). A patented self-locking mechanism maintains full load capacity if hydraulic pressure is disconnected or drops. Like our other Work Supports, these supports automatically adjust to the proper height for supporting a workpiece, then lock securely to become fixed rests. Support plunger is held by a precision sliding-fit pressure sleeve that provides incredible accuracy and repeatability.

SUPPORT ACTION (SPRING EXTENDED): Plunger is normally extended by light spring force. When the workpiece is loaded, its weight depresses the plunger to the proper height. When fluid pressure is applied to the A port, the precision sleeve grips the plunger, locking it securely. This self-locking is permanent until unlocking pressure is applied to the B port.

ACCURACY: Height repeatability within +/-.0002". Such excellent repeatability is possible because of two design features: 1) the sliding-fit pressure sleeve holds the plunger absolutely vertical even while unlocked, avoiding any inaccuracy due to locking a tilted plunger, and 2) locking force is entirely radial, so the plunger remains absolutely stationary during the locking process. Elastic deflection of the plunger per 100 lbs machining load is only .00001" for the smaller-size support and .00003" for the larger-size support.

OPTIONAL POSITION MONITORING: Pneumatic position monitoring can be accomplisched using ports M1 (support plunger retracted) and M2 (support plunger extended). To use position monitoring, remove the M5 screws from these two ports and screw in straight air fittings CLR-3890-091-AF or elbow air fittings CLR-3890-094-AF. The pressure built up at these pneumatic ports can be evaluated with a differential pressure switch.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS: The support plunger must always be protected against penetration of contaminants by a contact bolt (furnished). When supporting underneath a clamp, use a Sequence Valve to delay clamping until the Work Support has reached sufficient load capacity to resist the clamping force. Support load capacity should be at least 2 times clamping force at all times, to resist not only static clamping force, but also dynamic forces due to clamping-arm momentum and machining forces.

MOUNTING: Fasten to fixture with three socket-head cap screws.

FLUID CONNECTION: Two 1/8" BSPP ports (clamp size 1) or two 1/4" BSPP ports (clamp size 2), A for clamping, B for unclamping. For optional manifold mounting, use the A and B O-ring ports underneath the clamp instead of the standard ports. Unscrew the sealing plug in each O-ring port and install a CLR-3000-343-SW O-ring (also install a CLR-811-F Port Plug in each 1/8" BSPP port, or a CLR-810-F Port Plug in each 1/4" BSPP port). Do not use NPT fittings.

CONSTRUCTION: Plunger > Steel, case hardened. Body > Steel, black oxide finish.
