TECHNICAL INFORMATION
MODULAR POWER WORKHOLDING
Power workholding and modular fixturing make an excellent combination. Power workholding is an obvious choice to reduce cycle time in high-volume and long-run production. Although clamping speed is an obvious and important advantage, power workholding's biggest payoff usually is improved workpiece accuracy and the elimination of scrap. The improved workpiece quality is due consistent, controlled clamping, combined with automatically adjusted precision work supports that resist workpiece deformation during machining. Since power clamps can be used easily on modular fixtures, even short-run jobs can greatly benefit from power workholding.

Power Workholding
From these two examples, you can see that assembling a modular workholder for a power-workholding operation is basically the same process as that for a manual fixture. There are slight differences in the types of components used to position, clamp, and support the workpiece.
Power clamps, supports, and accessories used with modular fixtures can be reused, just as any other modular components. Therefore, modular fixturing is a very inexpensive way to achieve the significant benefits of power workholding: improved part quality and reduced manufacturing time.
See SWIFTSURE catalog section for electric and air power units. Once installed on a machine tool, one power unit can handle any modular power-workholding fixture on that machine.
Fixture hose is a unique small-diameter, braided-steel-covered hydraulic hose that is ideally suited for modular-fixturing applications. This hose can be installed in the same tight-fit areas as custom-bent tubing, yet installs as easily as conventional hydraulic hose. Keeping a variety of different-length fixture hoses on hand ensures that virtually any modular power-workholding fixture can be assembled without custom fabrication.
