Toggle Clamp Applications Guide

Welding, Assembly, & Test Jigs

Toggle Clamps are very well suited to Welding, Assembly, & Test Jigs primarily due to their toggle design. This makes it easy for operators, of various levels of skill, to ensure that the workpiece is properly clamped into place. Depending on the operation to be performed positive locking clamps can be added for critical features to decrease accidental un-clamping during the operation.

Toggle Clamps also have the unique ability to accommodate workpieces of slightly different sizes without adjustment. If greater adjust is desired the appropriate Spring Action Spindle can be selected. With Spring Action Spindles a spring, frequently of adjustable force, applies the clamping force to the workpiece.

Powered Toggle Clamps provide simple, cost-effective automation in these fixtures. Learn more about Power Toggle Clamps.

Machining

Toggle Clamps provide excellent clamping force, with a short clamp-unclamp cycle time, for a variety of machining operations. Given their limited clamping force they are most popular in the machining of wood, plastics, Carbon Fiber, and non-ferrous metals.

Latching

These clamps are commonly used to secure doors, gates, access panels, and other similar applications. Each Style has unique applications:

Rotational Molding Latch Clamp

The CL-152-PA-S is specifically designed for the rotational molding industry. It is used to close clam-shell type molds prior to insertion into an Auto-Clave. Available in a fixed-length to prevent unintentional loosening of the clamp it is also made from Stainless Steel to ensure long duty-cycle life even at elevated temperatures.

Adjustable U-Bolt

The most “universal” of all Latch clamps in applications. Available in both positively locking and non-locking styles, steel and Stainless Steel. Special length U-Bolts are available upon request.

Right Angle Adjustable U-Bolt

Similar to the Adjustable U-Bolt style this style pulls perpendicular to the base of the clamp. This is particularly useful if the clamp is mounted to a
“lid” or similar application.

Adjustable Hook

Simpler than the Adjustable U-Bolt Style this style can clamp against a feature in the workpiece or a latch plate is available. Locking and Non-Locking styles are available in both Steel and Stainless Steel.

Fixed Length

Latch clamp with a fixed reach for installation where no length adjustment is required. The adjustable stop allows latching at an angle.
