Toggle Clamps

Hold Down Toggle Clamps: Both vertical and horizontal handle toggle clamps are classified as hold-down toggle clamps and are one of the most common types. Both variations apply force in a downward direction, perpendicular to the tools that are mounting to the surface, to hold workpieces firmly against a base or table. The difference between these two types of toggle clamps is the location of the handle and the bar. These clamps are ideal for fixture plates, assembly tables, welding jigs, and inspection stations, providing fast, repeatable clamping that holds parts securely in place during operations.

Squeeze Action Toggle Clamps: Also known as toggle pliers, squeeze action toggle clamps are handheld, portable clamping tools that apply force on different parts placed between the upper and lower jaws of the clamp. These are commonly used to pinch together two pieces to secure them to a surface. Their portability and ease of use make them a go-to solution for on-the-fly clamping without a fixed setup.

Pull/Latching Toggle Clamps: This type of toggle clamp is commonly used for closing objects, such as mold closures and sealing lids on production lines, and is adaptable for numerous applications. Pull-action or latching toggle clamps are designed to apply linear force, typically engaging a hook or latch on the opposing component and pulling it tightly into place when the handle is locked. They are highly adaptable and provide strong, reliable holding for production lines, processing equipment, and transport containers.

Straight Line Toggle Clamps: Straight line toggle clamps, also referred to as push-pull and plunger-style clamps, provide clamping force along a linear axis rather than the downward or pulling motion of other clamps. Straight line toggle clamps can be used for clamping different objects together, like wood and molds. This type of toggle clamp can lock in either a push or a pull position. With their compact design and dual locking functionality, straight line toggle clamps are excellent for high-precision clamping in repetitive tasks.

A distinction must be made between clamping force and the holding capacity of toggle clamps. Clamping Force refers to the force that the clamp will exert on the workpiece, whereas holding capacity defines the maximum amount of force that may be applied to the clamping bar without deforming the clamp. This includes a 2:1 safety factor.
