Ball Lock Pins

Single-acting ball lock pins are quick-release fastening and alignment pins operated by a spring-loaded push button. In their normal position, locking balls extend from the pin shank to provide positive retention after the pin is inserted through an assembly.

Pressing the button moves the internal spindle and allows the locking balls to retract. The pin can then be inserted or removed without tools. When the button is released, the locking balls extend again to secure the pin.

This simple push-button operation makes single-acting ball lock pins well suited for applications that require frequent setup, adjustment, changeover, assembly, or disassembly. Common uses include fixtures, tooling, machinery, removable components, access panels, positioning systems, and workholding equipment.

Carr Lane offers four handle styles for single-acting Ball Lock Pins. Each uses the same push-button release principle while providing a different grip profile for the operator and surrounding equipment.

• T-Handle: T-handle ball lock pins provide a broad, easy-to-grasp handle for frequent manual insertion and removal. Their balanced shape gives operators a secure grip and makes them a versatile choice for fixtures, tooling, machinery, and other applications with adequate clearance around the pin.
• L-Handle: L-handle ball lock pins feature an offset handle that can provide additional leverage while keeping the operator’s hand on one side of the pin. This configuration can be useful when overhead clearance is limited, or when the pin must be operated beside adjacent components.
• Button-Handle: Button-handle ball lock pins have a compact, low-profile design that minimizes the space occupied by the handle. They are well suited for assemblies where clearance is restricted or where a larger handle could interfere with nearby equipment.
• Ring-Handle: Ring-handle ball lock pins provide a convenient pull ring for gripping, carrying, or attaching a cable or lanyard. The ring offers straightforward manual removal and can help keep the pin connected to the equipment when loss prevention is a concern.

Select the handle configuration based on available clearance, frequency of operation, accessibility, operator grip, and whether the pin needs to be tethered. After choosing a handle, confirm the required pin diameter, grip length, material, and optional features for the application.

• Choose the T Handle when operator access, handling comfort, and repeated use are primary considerations.
• Choose the L Handle when the application requires an offset grip or a handle that is easy to access from one direction.
• Choose the Button Handle for compact installations, closely spaced components, or applications where minimizing protrusion is important.
• Choose the Ring Handle when the pin must be easy to pull, tether, hang, or retain near the assembly.
